Spring Break Intensive - Intro to Wheel-Throwing
Our intro to wheel-throwing workshop is a 7 session intensive, where you will learn the fundamentals of throwing on the pottery wheel, trimming vessels, attaching handles or other elements, and an introduction to basic glazing techniques.
This is a zero-experience-necessary workshop, and is meant to introduce folks to the wheel, and the joy of creating things with clay. Each session is 2.5 hours long, will run from 6 PM - 8:30 PM, and will be a max of 5 people!
The dates are March 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, and 29 for wheel-throwing. You will return a week later to glaze your vessels, and then another week following that to do a pick up and (small) party!
You will have the chance to make as many vessels as you can!
Each workshop is $350, and will include demos and instruction on how to make various forms which could include: mugs, vases, bowls, and plates, the glazes that we have available, and one bag of clay (if you blast through that, there will be more available for purchase!).
DAY 1: introduction to clay and the wheel, with a focus on proper throwing techniques, and centering the clay.
DAY 2: a continuation of centering; learning how to make cylindrical forms, and how to manipulate the clay to make the shapes you want
DAY 3: practicing your learned techniques, and throwing as many forms as you want
DAY 4: trimming vessels and how to add handles or other elements to your vessels
DAY 5: More throwing.
DAY 6: Throwing and trimming, and anything else you can imagine!
DAY 7: Glazing
DAY 8: pick up your beautiful pieces, and party!
